 Phase 1: Who could forget the Senate vote on October 1, when Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) took the podium to explain her position on the proposed bailout package? In her statement, she explained that she received 91,000 calls and emails, with 85,000 of them opposed to the measure. Even armed with the knowledge that 93% of her concerned constituents were passionate enough to contact her office pleading for her to vote “nay”, she voted in favor of the bill, claiming that “there is a great deal of confusion out there” and these people “don’t understand” the situation. Most of our representatives ignored our demands claiming that we ordinary folks just didn’t grasp the complexity of the economics involved. And yet, after seven months of ongoing bailouts, this socialistic nationalization of banks, financial brokers, insurance giants, and the automotive industry seems to have done little more than to fuel a frenzied demand for even more bailouts and enormous loans by an ever-expanding queue of businesses that believe they are entitled to similar handouts from OUR taxpayer funds. What has happened to our country … what has happened to our constitution … WHEN the President can force auto makers to shut down their dealerships and put business owners OUT of business? Our federal government has ordered 800 Chrysler dealerships to close, even ones that are profitable (during a time when auto sales are down 46% over last year). This pre-emptive initiative to “bear arms while we can” is concerned that with President-elect Barack Obama in the White House and a Democrat-majority Congress tough, new gun laws are just around the corner. It may mean fewer opportunities to buy guns. Although an outright firearms ban seems unlikely, gun owners are worried about higher taxes on gun transactions and greater fees for Firearm Ownership Identification Card applications. Gun-rights advocates should also recognize that if the Dems do curtail, stifle, or eliminate guns sales, there is another point to consider.
