In a town hall listening tour on health care, voters express their utter disapproval of Representative Mike Castle’s (R-DE) vote for Cap and Trade (on June 26th). Goldman Sachs made $3.44 billion in profit this past quarter, while the U.S deficit topped $1 trillion for the first time in the nation’s history and appeared to be headed toward doubling that figure before the budget year is out. Since most of the increase in the federal deficit is due to bailing out the banks and salvaging the greater economy they helped destroy, why is the top investment bank doing so well? Well, because that was the plan, as devised by Bush Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, a former CEO of Goldman Sachs. Remember that Lehman Brothers, Goldman’s competitor, was allowed to go bankrupt. The Paulson crowd wouldn’t let Lehman change its status to that of a bank holding company and thus qualify for federal funds; soon afterward, Goldman was granted just such a deal, worth a quick $10 billion. Much is now made of Goldman paying back part of its bailout money, but forgotten is the $12.9 billion that Goldman got as its cut of the $180 billion AIG payoff. That is money that will not be paid back.

Republicans lined up Sunday (2009-07-12) in opposition to a second economic-stimulus package, a rare demonstration of unity from an out-of-power political party in search of a rallying cry against President Obama. Republicans called Obama’s $787 billion spending plan a “flop” and said it hadn’t fulfilled its hype. They criticized the White House for increasing the federal deficit and doing little to combat an unemployment rate that hit 9.5 percent in June. “The reality is it hasn’t helped yet,” said Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ). “Only about 6.8 percent of the money has actually been spent. What I proposed is, after you complete the contracts that are already committed, the things that are in the pipeline, stop it.”

As Fox News reports in this video, Barack Obama is the first President to have his book banned from prisons. The federal government’s most secure prison has determined that the two books written by President Barack Obama contain material “potentially detrimental to national security” and rejected an inmate’s request to read them. Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is serving a 30-year sentence at the federal supermax prison in Florence, CO, for joining al-Qaida and plotting to assassinate then-President George W. Bush. Last year, Abu Ali requested two books written by Obama: “Dreams from My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope.” But prison officials, citing guidance from the FBI, determined that passages in both books contain information that could damage national security. A prison spokeswoman referred questions to the FBI, where a spokeswoman was looking into the matter Thursday (2009-07-09) evening. The documents detailing the prison’s rejection of Obama’s books are included in court papers for a re-sentencing hearing scheduled later this month for Abu Ali, a U.S. citizen. On July 7th, former Vice President Al Gore promised, at a conference in the United Kingdom, that the impending U.S. “Cap & Trade” legislation will bring about “global governance.” Was this merely a rhetorical flourish similar to a Bidenism? (video below) Or, did Gore simply confess publicly that pushing through global warming legislation is actually intended to bring about a one world government … in spite of the fact that a scientific consensus is forming that the globe is cooling, not warming?

More than 1,000 Tea Party Rallies took place across our country on Independence Day … in towns small and large … with crowds ranging from a few dozen to throngs of thousands. Around this great nation, hundreds of thousands of concerned patriots spoke with one voice … downsize government, reign in spending, and stop the upcoming tax increases. Yet, we heard barely a peep from the mainstream media (MSM). The blatant bias of the MSM is evidenced by the fact that they’ll regularly and ubiquitously cover a dozen ACORN protesters while completely ignoring crowds of thousands protesting our nation’s slide into socialism. An estimated crowd of 25,000 to 35,000 people attended the Independence Day tea party at Southfork Ranch in Dallas on Saturday, one organizer said.

 Background: Our rally here is on July 11th and his schedule will have him elsewhere. While in town though, our own GeekGirl2u arranged with his folks for him to speak with our Tea Party organizers after the event (she’s spoken with them a few times in the past two weeks). Our group consists of over two dozen active volunteers, but only a handful of us made it this July 3rd for the book signing. (BTW, we formed a non-profit corporation a few weeks ago so that we can accept donations to fund our activities.) Frankly, we are quite grateful that he took 30 minutes from his very busy schedule to chat with us privately. Before this session, we were impressed with his voting record and his solutions to stop the slide into socialism. Afterward … and we talked about it for nearly two hours … we are convinced that this down-to-earth U.S. Senator is a national leader in the fight to take back our country. There were a couple of moments when his sense of humor had us laughing. Irv, a 78-year-old Navy veteran, said, “Sir, I have a confession.” The Senator quipped, “Haven’t we had enough of those lately?” Irv then explained that he was a war veteran and has now been called a “right-wing extremist” by the current administration. Mr. Demint shook his hand and thanked him for his service to our country.

At a press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship. (video below) On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners. Palin announced that she will transfer power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Parnell will be sworn in during the upcoming governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. Parnell said he plans to keep all state commissioners and continue to pursue a natural gas pipeline. He also announced that he would enter the gubernatorial race in 2010.

Al Franken ascended Tuesday (2009-06-30) from the ranks of former “Saturday Night Live” comedians to an even more exclusive club, outlasting Republican Norm Coleman in an eight-month recount and courtroom saga to win a seat in the U.S. Senate. Franken’s victory gives Democrats control of 60 seats in the Senate — the critical number needed to overcome Republican filibusters. When Franken is seated for Minnesota, which could come as early as next week, his party will have a majority not reached on either side of the aisle in three decades. Coleman conceded the election hours after a unanimous state Supreme Court ruled that Franken — who moved into politics with books poking fun at conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh — should be certified the winner. In doing so, he pulled the plug on a bitter election that was ultimately decided by 312 votes out of nearly 2.9 million cast.
