Of the 110 justices that have sat on the supreme court, only 11 of them have been catholic. Five of these sit on the bench today. Judge Sotomayor could be the sixth (video below). Some leftists are raising the question of ‘religious denomination diversity’. In fact, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito were grilled intensely by democrats regarding their religious faith during their confirmation hearings. Nonetheless, most on the far left are inspired by her racist statements against caucasians and her jokes about the courts making policy (instead of adjudicating the law).

The following is Vladamir Nabokov’s memorable account of the process by which graphite is converted into pencil lead. From Chapter 3 of his excellent novel Transparent Things: “We see graphite, ground very fine, being mixed with moist clay by young girls and old men. This mass, this pressed caviar, is placed in a metal cylinder which has a blue eye, a saphire with a hole drilled in it, and through this the caviar is forced. It issues in on continuous appetizing rodlet (watch for our little friend!), which looks as if it retained the shape of an earthworm’s digestive tract. It is now being cut into lengths required for these particular pencils. See it baked, see it boiled in fat and fitted into wood.” What, though, from a political-economic standpoint, is the significance of pencils and pencil lead? Well (not to put too fine a point on it), in December of 1958, a man named Leonard Read wrote a remarkable essay entitled “I, Pencil: My Family Tree as told to Leonard E. Read.” In this essay, Mr. Read walks us step-by-step through the entire process of how a single pencil is produced. I recapitulate it here, as I have recapitulated it in Chapter 8 of my book, because I believe it is the only argument you’ll ever need in support of the absolute economic superiority of laissez-faire capitalism.

Every job that I have ever applied for required experience, unless of course it was for unskilled labor. I don’t mean to be-little any unskilled labor positions taken by anyone. God knows I have had my share of jobs in that field. Heck, I’ve even picked cotton, tomatoes, worked on factory assembly lines, and earned a Dollar an hour cleaning brick. I wised up later, got some education and found “better” jobs. But, only those that I trained for or had experience in did I qualify for employment. Even the small management position I hold now uses some of my previous experience in construction. It seems strange to allow this young man, Brian Deese, with no experience/knowledge of the auto industry to be allowed to make such strong decisions about how it’s run. Maybe this is the new “Government Motors” and this could be “On The Job Training” with no experience necessary.

Goosebumps ! My music producer, Frank Starchak, is a genius. I’ve challenged him to do something never before done on a commercial song recording. However, I feel it is necessary to evoke the emotion and magnitude of the Tea Party movement. As he’s done numerous times in the past, Frank rose to the occasion. He just played me a rough mix today. Folks, it gave me GOOSEBUMPS on GOOSEBUMPS! Tomorrow, I will perform my lead vocal. The national release date is JUNE 23rd. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it. All the best, Lloyd

There is only one possible way to increase wages and living standards, and that is by increasing production. In fact, this is a component of Say’s Law, an economic law systematized and formally codified by the great French economist Jean Baptiste Say (1767-1832). Contrary to what they’ve informed you, labor unions are not responsible for increased wages and living standards in this country. Advances in technology are. Real wages — which are wages adjusted for the effects of inflation — rose at roughly 2 percent per year before the advent of labor unions, and they rose at a similar rate afterward (see Morgan Reynolds, Power and Privilege: Labor Unions in America, 1984).

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, CA home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County. David Jones told FOX News (watch the video below) “On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county.” “We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a Bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all,” Jones said. A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited “unlawful use of land,” ordering them to either “stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit,” the couple’s attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

You may well recall the frequently reported campaign promise by Barack Obama that “under his presidency no one with an income under $250,000 would see a tax increase”. His resolute promise to the American people may soon be tested. There is a growing buzz in our nation’s capital to implement a Value Added Tax (VAT) of as much as 25% on all goods purchased and services rendered. Created in 1954 by French economist Maurice Lauré, then director of the French tax authority, a VAT is actually an indirect tax. This Value Added Tax is one of the most efficient systems for taking revenue from citizens ever contrived. It is used in 130 countries around the globe, mostly in socialist countries … so that average citizens bare the burden of enormous government expansion and ever-increasing government handouts. The VAT is essentially a sales tax, except that it’s charged at each stage in the development of a product instead of at the moment when the product is sold.

Most of us just don’t have the time to give even a cursory perusal to the abundance of conservative commentary and news, so we help you with the quest. Each Sunday we highlight issues and headlines from the week, commented by established political pundits. These include articulate and compelling commentary from Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly, Devvy Kidd, Dick Morris, Michelle Malkin, and Thomas Sowell. We include others from time to time, but these six are rather prolific. These are their opinions on today’s hot topics; what’s yours?

If you watched the news last Election Day (2008-11-04), you probably recall the coverage regarding a member of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (NBPPSD) standing directly in front of the entrance to a Philadelphia polling place (1221 Fairmount Avenue) … wielding a nightstick and intimidating voters. The three videos below document the ordeal. The government sued the man (King Samir Shabazz) and two associates (Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson), saying they violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act by scaring would-be voters with a weapon, racial slurs, and military-style uniforms. Jackson was an official poll watcher that day, representing the 14th Ward Democratic Committee. After none of the men appeared in court to face the charges, the government sought a default judgment against them. But, according to interviews and documents obtained by the Times, the lawyers were later ordered to reverse themselves by the Department of Justice and to ask for the cases against Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson to be dismissed. A default judgment was pursued against King Samir Shabazz to simply prohibit him from displaying a weapon within 100 feet of an open polling place until November 15, 2012. The DOJ has not only dismissed the case legally, but they have actually dismissed that notion that threatening voters as they enter a polling place is unacceptable behavior … as long as you’re a Black Panther. What’s the long-term implication of this failure to prosecute?

Social Security tacks on to that figure an additional $15 trillion in unfunded liability. To put those outlandish numbers into slightly better perspective, the entire United States economy “only” produces $14 trillion a year. The Medicare Board of Trustees Report goes on to estimate the following:
