Finance Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said that current law and the healthcare bill under consideration are too lax and leave the door open to illegal immigrants defrauding the government using false or stolen identities to obtain benefits.

The New York State Health Department is making all health care workers who come in contact with patients to get both the flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine by November 30th.
The state says it’s a measure to keep patients and staff safe, while many health care workers say the mandate violates their rights and they’re worried about the safety of the vaccines.

On Wednesday (September 23rd), the Obamas hosted a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, during which they stood for 135 photographs with visiting foreign dignitaries in town for the UN meeting. The President has exactly the same smile in every single shot.
Eerily, as this video slideshow by Eric Spiegelman reveals, he appears to be a wax sculpture or cardboard cutout. The photos are available on the State Department’s flickr page.
Today, Rasmussen Reports released the results from its weekly survey on the President’s healthcare plan. Clearly, the more America hears about these plans, the more it dislikes them … despite Obama’s massive P.R. push over the last couple of weeks.
ObamaCare support is now at its lowest level yet. The biggest gap between supporters and opponents is among senior citizens.

Americans who fail to pay the penalty for not buying insurance would face legal action from the Internal Revenue Service, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.
Senator John Ensign (R-NV) received a handwritten note Thursday (September 24th) from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the maximum $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), said today (September 25th) a tax on high-cost insurance plans is “under consideration” as Democrats search for consensus within their ranks before taking a bill to the House floor later this fall.
The current House Democratic plan (HR-3200) calls for raising income taxes on upper-income people to pay for covering the uninsured. In the Senate, Max Baucus (D-MT) has instead proposed a tax on high-cost insurance plans worth more than $8,000 for an individual policy and $21,000 for family coverage.
Proponents of the insurance tax, which Obama has endorsed, say it would help to lower health care costs by encouraging people to become more cost-conscious health care consumers.
