PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Hispanic Assembly and member of the Republican Central Committee, Ivan Marte, says he has quit the GOP because he was embarrassed by South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson’s outburst during President Obama’s address to Congress on September 9th.
Wilson shouted “You lie,” when President Obama said illegal immigrants would not receive benefits under his health care plan.
Ivan Marte tells The Providence Journal that Wilson’s behavior was “shameful” and “uncivilized.”
Marte says he has been disenchanted by the GOP since Governor Don Carcieri ignored his advice concerning the 2008 executive order cracking down on illegal immigration.
State party chairman Giovanni Cicione says Marte’s contributions to the party were valued and he’s disappointed by the resignation.

I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment … we should thank him for his resignation!
Joe Wilson was right! But, his timing may have been inappropriate.
However, if a waiter stormed into the dining area of a fine restaurant and shouted “fire” … no one whose life he saved would have criticized the interruption. IMHO, this is what Joe Wilson did … there is a firestorm of misrepresentation coming from the WH. HR 3200 offered NO protection against illegal aliens receiving coverage. The Heller amendment would have insured citizenship verification … but it was voted down.
Hey Ivan, just walk down the hall and signup with the dems, it’s where you belong. We don’t need any more 0bummer ballwashers with R after their name.
RedHook … many RINO’s and Dems will hear the will of we, the people, on November 2nd, 2010!
