Sarah Palin's Facebook Popularity Soars5.054

Sarah Palin’s Facebook page has gained more than 300,000 new supporters in the last two months. She gained over 100,000 of these in the last week. As of this writing, she has over 800,000 supporters.

This soaring trend is likely due to the fact that Palin is using Facebook as a podium. Armed with only a notebook computer and an Internet connection, she is arguably communicating her messages more effectively than President Obama with vast millions of tax payer dollars at his resolute disposal for enormous marketing campaigns.

She’s recently posted op-eds on hot topics such as federal stimulus programs, Cap and Trade, America’s use of foreign oil, and, of course, health care reform. When she referred to ObamaCare’s end-of-life counseling as “death panels” and labeled the system itself as “downright evil”, she got the attention of the White House. President Barack Obama and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs have both (derisively) mentioned her comments.

Clearly though, some of her “supporters” have signed up specifically to denigrate her flurry of compelling editorials. Nonetheless, her reach through the social networking site has a readership far beyond those who sign on as fans. In fact, while President Obama’s poll numbers are in steady decline, Palin’s following is beginning to skyrocket. Leaving the governorship appears to have been more prudent than many originally perceived.

But, how does this audience compare with other probable 2012 Presidential candidates? We gathered that data for you. The chart above reveals the vast disparity.

It is worth noting that although Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) is not currently considered a possible candidate, there is growing support in his home state to encourage his run for the office. Recently, his steadfast stand against government-run health care while proposing the Health Care Freedom Plan as a viable alternative are beginning to gain national attention. His own Facebook page is starting to reflect his appeal.

Given the overwhelming Leftist, Liberal bias of the media and their grotesque smears of Gov. Palin, it is not surprising that she should seek a direct connection to the American people. This is good for democracy, communication and political free speech. Perhaps it will catch on and diminish the role of those phony “journalists” who slant or omit newsworthy information to push their socialist agendas and peddle the smears that disgust most Americans.

A writer’s comment: I really liked the very direct and spare way you composed this piece. I know that paradoxically writing this way sometimes takes MORE effort.

Palin, I think, has much potential. Her first unveiling was handled quite horrendously, and she herself made dramatic mistakes. If that can be corrected, and some of the drama of her life removed (though much is media-generated by opponents, and thus permanent), in time she could walk the path of a Reagan. Time - and intercessory prayer for the nation - will tell.

Indeed, she could well be a viable candidate in 2012 … despite some setbacks in here VP run and her resigning the governorship.

Ashton Kutcher has over 3 million fans on Facebook. Maybe he will be a viable candidate in 2012 too? This is meaningless. Having said that, however, if Sarah plays her cards right she could rehabilitate herself and possibly be someone’s VP one day and then ascend to the top spot through the VP’s office. I don’t see her as a viable candidate in 2012 given her being Dan Quayled by the media and her resignation of the governorship.

Given her high negatives with the indies and mods, whose votes she needs to get elected, she won’t be elected president anytime soon. Down the road, though, she might make a fabulous president after serving as someone else’s VP for 8 years. I’d love to see her as the first US female president (if Hillary doesn’t beat her to it).

Her other option is to become the conservative version of Oprah with her own talk show, books, news specials and campaiging for other conservative candidates and causes. She’d be very successful at something like that and won’t need the mods and indies to succeed.

    All valid points!

I am a Palin Person Pusher…Sarah has a plan and we will watch it unwind in a totally different way of going about politics in Washington by going about it outside of Washington. Kinda like the “We the People” way!

It’s interesting how she is using BHO’s techniques by going tech! Beat him at his own game by matching his style! Kinda like a community organizer over the ‘net! It will be interesting to see how her numbers will rise as Obama’s fall.

Rove on Fox just announced the following on his whiteboard:

    Opposition to the BHO PUSH:
    July vs. August:

    - 1 out of 5 Democrats
    - 3 out of 5 Independents
    - 9 out of 10 Republicans

Who knows maybe will have a DeMint - Palin Ticket! Got my support and vote!

Helena: The purpose of this article was not to compare Palin’s growing Facebook popularity with movie stars, but to review her status in relation to other conservative hopefuls for 2012.

Lynda: I agree. It’s the “We the people” way. You may have coined a new way of using that phrase.
