Bonuses paid to executives at nine banks that received U.S. government bailout money in 2008 were greater than net income at some of the banks, the office of New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said on Thursday.
Cuomo, in a report on months of investigation into compensation paid by the banks, said employee pay “has become unmoored from the banks’ financial performance.”
Representatives of the banks either declined comment on the report or could not comment immediately.
“There is no clear rhyme or reason to the way banks compensate and reward their employees,” said the report by Cuomo, New York’s top legal officer, who began his probe last October amid taxpayer complaints about Wall Street pay.
Much to my surprise, the “birther” movement has arrived on the Huffington Post … in a positive light. And … it expresses my sentiments precisely … “Why NOT just release your birth certificate?” … and … while you’re at it … “Why NOT release ALL of your college records?”. Why spend over a million dollars on lawyers to prevent these documents from being revealed? A few dollars and a couple of phone calls can silence all of this controversy.

When President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court, he said she was selected because he wanted someone who would show “empathy.” It occurred to me that Obama wants the same behavior from America’s police.
Professor Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct. Because Gates is black, the White House has launched a race committee to “teach” police to be more sensitive. Like his Supreme Court nominee, Obama wants police to give special consideration to race when enforcing the law. So, before you white cops arrest a black person for a crime, think of America’s original sin of slavery and all that liberals say blacks are still going through. Perhaps, a, “I understand where you’re comin’ from bro” before you cuff him.
Obama’s race committee is an absurd waste of taxpayers’ money. What on earth does arresting someone for disorderly conduct have to do with race? Gates is either guilty or not guilty. His skin color is irrelevant. Obama making Gates’ arrest about “race” is extremely telling; an insight into his belief about police.
The police officer at the center of a national dispute over race and law enforcement says a much-anticipated meeting at the White House was productive and all parties are looking forward.
Cambridge police Sgt. James Crowley spoke after meeting with President Barack Obama and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., along with Vice President Joe Biden. Crowley described himself and Gates as “two gentlemen who agreed to disagree” about the confrontation that led to Gates’ arrest.

The state of Rhode Island recently sent out 3,949 warning letters to businesses who were behind on their quarterly sales tax payments. Out of these 3,949 businesses, all but 1,248 paid their taxes, which amounted to $3,072,500. The businesses that did not pay have lost their sales tax permits and have been shut down. If the businesses reopen, they face fines of up to $5,000 and up to 1 year in prison.

House Republicans on Wednesday unveiled a $700 billion health care plan that would offer tax credits to help people buy insurance, yet unlike Democratic proposals, wouldn’t require either individuals or employers to get coverage.
Some of the ideas in the plan appeal to moderate Democrats, but with Republicans out of power, there’s little likelihood their proposal will be enacted. Nonetheless, it will give GOP lawmakers under fire for their opposition to President Barack Obama’s plan something positive to point to when they go home for the congressional August break.
In early July, Army Reserve Major Stefan Frederick Cook filed a lawsuit against the Army, the defense secretary, and the president. He claimed that Obama could not lawfully order him to go to war because he is not the legitimate president of the United States. His concern was that Obama has not proven that he is eligible to be Commander in Chief because he has not shown his birth certificate.
On July 14, just before deploying to Afghanistan, the commanding general of Special Operations Command Central formally revoked Cook’s orders. Two days later, a Georgia court dismissed the case.
This case revived questions about Obama not being a natural born citizen. But, what has been overlooked by most of the press coverage regarding Cook is a portion of the 26-page lawsuit document itself, filed July 9th with the federal district court of Columbus, GA.
The private investigator hired by the attorney, Orly Taitz, in the case discovered that Obama may have used up to 149 different addresses AND 39 different social security numbers prior to becoming president.
Further, allegedly the social security number most commonly used by Barack Hussein Obama, is one issued in the state of Connecticut, a state where Barack Hussein Obama never resided, AND it shows him to be 119 years old.

Arizona legislators are considering selling the House and Senate buildings where they’ve conducted state business for more than 50 years.
Dozens of other state properties also may be sold as the state government faces its worst financial crisis in a generation, if not ever. The plan isn’t to liquidate state assets, though.
