Bear with me today, friends, as we layout the timeline of the grief-stricken President-Elect Barack Obama’s mournful concerns for his loving maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who raised him from 1971 through 1979 (when he left Hawaii). He lived with his grandmother while his mother returned to live in Indonesia.
As you can see from the photo this kind-hearted lady, who he affectionately called “Toot”, cared deeply for the young man she raised. The photo is from his high school graduation in 1979. She passed away from a long battle with cancer two days before his election (October 26, 1922 – November 2, 2008) and she was laid to rest yesterday (2008-11-14).

The first that most of us had heard of Madelyn Dunham was on March 18, 2008, in a speech on race relations in Philadelphia in the wake of controversial videos of Obama’s pastor Jeremiah Wright surfacing. Obama described his grandmother,
October 20, 2008 …
Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s campaign announced Monday (2008-10-20) that he would suspend his campaigning for two days (Thursday and Friday) to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii. He was expected to resume his campaign on Saturday (2008-10-25).
Madelyn Dunham, 86, raised Obama during his teenage years in Hawaii, while his mother was living in Indonesia. The campaign reported she was gravely ill in Honolulu.
The following excerpt is from WTOL 11 in Toledo, OH as reported by the AP.
Campaign spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters aboard Obama’s plane that Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped raise Obama, was released from the hospital late last week. But he said her health had deteriorated “to the point where her situation is very serious.”
Events originally planned for Madison, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday will be replaced by one in Indianapolis before he makes the flight to Hawaii. On Friday, Obama’s wife, Michelle, will sub for Obama at rallies in Akron and Columbus, in Ohio. Obama is expected to resume campaigning on Saturday, at an undecided location.
Spokesman Gibbs says Dunham “has always been one of the most important people in Obama’s life”. She turns 86 Sunday.
Obama says Dunham taught him values “straight from the Kansas heartland.” He recognized his grandmother when he accepted the Democratic presidential nomination. In that speech, he said she taught him about hard work and that she was the one “who put off buying a new car or a new dress for herself so he could have a better life”.

Behind the scenes …
Coverage of Obama’s heartfelt emergency visit to Hawaii during the peak of the general election received ubiquitous MSM coverage. But, what was far less known was that on October 17, 2008 (three days before Obama’s campaign departure announcement), Andy Martin, an American journalist, filed a suit against the state of Hawaii calling for the public release of Barack Obama’s birth certificate and other vital records. Martin’s lawsuit sought a copy of Senator Obama’s long-form birth certificate. On October 22, 2008 (the day before Obama arrived in the Aloha State) the Hawaii Supreme Court denied Petition 29414 calling for the release of Obama’s vital records.
According to KITV, the Hawaii Department of Health director released a statement on October 31 verifying the legitimacy of Senator Barack Obama’s birth certificate. The state had received multiple requests for a copy of Obama’s birth certificate. State law does not allow officials to release the birth certificate of a person to someone outside of the family.
Moreover, Andy Martin continues his his court battles to “see” Obama’s Hawaii birth certificate. He has a court hearing scheduled on November 18th.
November 2, 2008 …
As reported by the Washington Post, Madelyn Dunham, 86, grandmother of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, whose personality and bearing shaped much of his life, died of cancer November 2 at her home in Honolulu, on the eve of an election in which her grandson was the leading presidential candidate. Until her death, she lived in the same Honolulu apartment building where she raised Obama. “She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility,” Obama said in a statement released by his campaign.
According to the Honolulu AP, Obama announced the news from the campaign trail in Charlotte, N.C. The joint statement with his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng said Dunham died late Sunday night after a battle with cancer. “She’s gone home,” Obama said as tens of thousands of rowdy supporters at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte grew silent in an evening drizzle.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Dunham “left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure,” said a statement released by Obama and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. The statement said Dunham’s family would hold a small private ceremony for her at a later date yet to be determined.
November 14, 2008 …
The late grandmother of President-elect Barack Obama was eulogized Friday as a strong, vibrant woman who was dedicated to her profession and her family. About 150 friends, former co-workers, and others gathered to pay their respects to Madelyn Dunham at a 45-minute ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Neither Obama nor his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, attended. A private family ceremony is likely to be held in December when Obama is expected to visit the islands.
Hmmm …
First, if there ever was evidence proving Obama was not a citizen of the USA, it was probably corrected long ago. But, it is quite peculiar that Obama left for Hawaii to visit his ill grandmother at precisely the same time Martin’s first investigation was underway. That timing is particularly puzzling in hindsight given that he did not go to Hawaii when she died and he did not go for her official memorial service.
One could understand that he would be challenged to leave the campaign two days before the election; but there certainly was plenty of sympathy for him here in the contiguous 48. However, what truly baffles me is that he is just too busy now to have attended her memorial service.
Let’s review. Ms. Dunham raised him for 8 years while his mother essentially abandoned him. She takes ill in late October and he leaves the campaign trail to visit her for two days.

But … he is just too busy today to attend her memorial service … the woman who raised him and who he claims to have loved so dearly. What has him so preoccupied? This man who derided Senator McCain during the campaign two months ago mocking that “Presidents can do more that one thing at a time”, is somehow too consumed with preparation for his Presidency 10 weeks from now. How many hours would it have taken him to fly to Hawaii and back for the 45-minute service?
“You can tell a lot about a person by the way he treats the dead — especially the dead who are close relatives without whom he would be nothing. And, it certainly says a lot about Barack Hussein Obama,” Debbie Schlussel (reported by Exposing Liberal Lies).

I wonder, today, if Mr. Obama laments that his actions did not live up to his best intentions. Let us hope that he considers his absence a mistake at the memorial service of the woman who raised him AND “sacrificed again and again for him, a woman who loved him as much as she loved anything in this world” AND “who put off buying a new car or a new dress for herself so he could have a better life”.
If this is the respect he has for the woman who raised him, what is in store for the rest of us? He doesn’t know any of us and most of us have never done anything personally to help him … and … he’s about to lead our country!!! What say you?

I looked in to this birth certificate matter, and from the opinion in Berg v. Obama, it looks like the only people whom the federal district court would recognize as having jurisdiction are other candidates in the presidential race. It doesn’t say that explicitly but since everyone else is denied standing, except for people directly harmed, the provision in the constitution is either unenforceable or only enforceable by someone who did not get to be president if Obama was born in a foreign country. Anyway, the Supreme Court will deny cert, in all likelihood.

Heidi: I recognize that your interest with the can-do-no-wrong Obama clouds your perception of reality, so there is not much point in me attempting to penetrate the shield against truth that you’ve constructed for yourself. One day though, bits and pieces of the real world will begin to seep in and you’ll grasp the implications of this man’s lack of character.
The quick trip to Hawaii just before the election, during Martin’s investigation, was very suspicious. Particularly since Madelyn was “gravely ill”, “not expected to live to elelction day” and such an important and giving person in Zero’s life. He made his announcement on Tuesday, right? But he waited for two more days of campaigning to leave to reach her before she died. That’s a crock! He was going to put pressure on Martin’s efforts and by taking photographers - weird thing to do IMHO - he got maximum sympathy for the Kool-Aid Krowd.
She was likely very incommunicado, if indeed, she was aware he was there. I don’t believe he took this trip for Granny. He’s a PIG.
Huntingdonpost….someone DID file that was harmed … he ran for President and was on the Ballot. Alan Keyes. Filed on Nov 12. ….against BO, Biden, the Secretary of State in California, AND, the 55 Electorals who will vote on Dec 15th. I think it ia hogwash…that other lawsuits were tossed out (Robert Berg vs BO in a PA Case) because and average citizen doesn’t have a ‘right” … bull crap.. we all suffer if the constitution is not upheld. I am outraged that the MSM doesn’t make this an issue! It is appalling that BO will not just release his records…and USA citizens don’t care! If he had nothing to hide… the release. Scott Peterson refused to take a polygraph to show his innocence.. why?

Percy11, I am in agreement with you. Keyes is one of the few who has standing, if the district court in PA is correct in its ruling–but the PA fed ct is not binding on CA. Without a SCt decision there will be no resolution. Of course, Obama could clear it up if he wanted to. I suspect he won’t release his school records because they show multiple citizenships and names. The only significant matter is whether he is a natural born citizen. Even if it came out that he gave up US citizenship and got it back, he’s elected now and his eligibility wouldn’t change. Keyes should press his suit. I don’t think it will disqualify Obama, but it might.
