As a pragmatic matter, Obama has already been vetted by the FBI and Homeland Security. Obama doesn’t get the keys to the intelligence kingdom merely by election — he must be screened first, like everybody else. Especially since we know Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate after the World Trade Center attacks, after all security rules were tightened, you’d have to make a case that Obama was denied a security clearance as a starting point for claiming he is anything other than a flag-waving, Yankee Doodle Dandy, patriotic American.

The transition team can’t speed vacancies at the FCC. FCC is an independent agency, with commissioners serving set terms of five years. Rivera has not been appointed to a term, and cannot “swing” a vote. Christian radio existed under the old fairness doctrine — whatever makes you think it can’t be done fairly? Nothing in that video says he intends to “defund and disarm our military.” Maybe you’re one of those nuts who thinks that George Lucas’s Star Wars were real — but that’s a poor reason to continue throwing money after expensive, disproven technologies. Star Wars was one of the hugest errors of the Reagan administration, and it was stupid of Bush to revive it. Killing it would leave more money to do what President Carter did, build the military into the top equipped, top trained military in the world. The weapons that won Gulf War I were not Reagan’s Star Wars phantasms, but the hardware that President Carter had ordered. Sadly, we’re still functioning on the Carter technology. Obama understands that our fighting people need the best, and that Obi Wan Kenobi is not going to save our military at any price. You should realize that, too.

Economists for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce always make that claim. They’ve never been able to back it up with real numbers. Oddly, Obama had greater support among people in that above-$250,000 income category than McCain. Justice appeals even to the very rich.

In short, taking from the rich and giving to the poor may sound good on the surface. But, the reality is that the rich WILL survive while the higher prices and increased unemployment will cost FAR MORE than the stipends wrenched from the grip of the wealthy.

But morally, at least, it’s a better idea to make the rich pay their fair share and reduce the tax burden of the poor and near-poor, and middle class.

It’s called “standard Senate procedure.” Every Member of Congress gets checked for clearances before they’re sworn in. Not sure where you’ll find the procedure spelled out, but you might want to check the Rules Committees or the FBI’s organic law.
